The Bucket List

With the decision to leave London, we of course had to create a bucket list of things we want to do before leaving.  Some of the items are small/simple things in London; some will require travel (yea!).  We've already managed a little over half the items-and in truth there are one or two items on the list that likely can't be done-but, we're certainly going to try!
  • Cocktails in the OXO Tower.  Check:  Dec 30, 2011
  • View the London NYE Fireworks.  Check:  Dec 31, 2011/January 1, 2012
  • Horse ride in Hyde Park...a good incentive to lose another 5kg so I can get under the weight limits to ride the horses
  • Visit Olympic Village.  Check:  Dec 27, 2011
  • Visit Lakes District
  • Visit Devon and/or Cornwall
  • Visit Cockfosters Tube Station.  Check:  Oct 23, 2011
  • Visit Reims, France (trip booked first weekend of March)
  • Visit Porto, Portugal (a first for Simon).  Check:  Jan 12-14, 2011
  • Visit Victoria & Albert Museum.  Check:  Nov 13, 2011
  • Picnic in Hyde Park...er, seemed like a good idea when the weather was still nice in October; I'm not so sure, now!
  • Visit all tube stations....we've perhaps the end of 3 more lines to go
  • Ride a Boris Bike.  Check:  Nov 13, 2011 (to the V&A museum.  a two-fer day!)
That's it.  The list is short and sweet-in truth, the list could be over 100 items, but we wanted to keep it realistic.

What would be on your London bucket list?

  1. How was the Olympic Village? Worth a trip?

  2. @Anne...yes! We didn't get to go in due to the construction, but we walked fully around the park. I had no idea there was such pretty greenspace out in that part of London!

  3. Good luck with the visa stuff! I brought my English fiance over on a K1, but you can apply through the embassy, which makes things much quicker. We hope to move to the UK in a few years after we have kids, but just for 2-3 years. I just got my British nursing license so that I can work over there (once I get a spousal visa, of course)

I also hail from Seattle (although currently live in D.C. for the moment) and miss it too! The east coast is very different from the west coast...but at least we still have American food :)

  4. I hope you get to check Devon/Cornwall off your list! In doing my research for my move I've discovered it's one of the more beautiful places in the UK. The Lake Districts, also. My nephew lived in Cornwall for about 6 months last year, but moved back to Wiltshire because he couldn't find a job, so I plan on having the boy at least take me there and show me around.
Horse riding in Hyde Park! Didn't know that was an option, certainly do provide us with the details of that one after your ride. I hope you get to enjoy as much of the UK as you can before you leave, and it sounds like you're well on your way to that!

  5. Hi Kristina,

I came across your blog the other day and I must say, very inspirational.

I too am looking to ‘kick’ my bucket list but don’t know where to start my research or book my experiences and trips!

My bucket list ranges from trying new foods to new travels and others.

Any tips on best approach to researching and fulfilling the bucket list?

Much appreciated and best of luck in fulfilling yours.

    Kind regards,

    AT

    1. Hi AT,

No magic tips, I'm afraid. We just tried to pick a good mix of local and abroad, easy and challenging...and cheap and expensive. :)

There's no rule that says you have to do it all, so if anything, we just threw it all on the list as a starting point!

Good luck. It was great fun to try to tackle the list, and I'm sure you'll have a blast trying to tick the items off your list too.
